We hear a lot about Republicans, Democrats, and the all-important Independent vote. But what about the millions of people who don’t vote at all?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about one-third of eligible Americans did not vote in the 2024 presidential election. Roughly 154 million people voted meaning around 80 to 90 million eligible voters did not cast a ballot.

Some feel ignored. Others think their vote won’t matter, and a lot of us are frustrated with politics altogether. But your voice still matters.

Voting isn’t about agreeing on everything. It’s about participating. Even if you don’t vote for the party I support, I still believe you should make your voice heard.

Below are some of the most common reasons people give for not voting, along with why they don’t fully hold up. When you’re speaking with someone who doesn’t vote remember to engage with empathy and understanding. Meeting people where they are rather than where you expect them to be
